Journalism is not a crime

We are shocked and saddened to hear that journalist Peter Greste and his two Al-Jazeera colleagues, English Cairo Bureau Chief Mohamed Fahmy and producer Baher Mohamed have been sentenced to seven years in jail by an Egyptian court. The court has ruled they are guilty of collaborating with the Muslim Brotherhood. However there is no evidence to support the claims.

Mediapro journalist Maria Veronese, who used to work with Peter at BBC World TVC London says; “Peter is an outstanding journalist who is dedicated to objectivity and the highest degree of professionalism. I hope messages from his family and friends, as well as the silent demonstrations journalists are holding worldwide will give Peter and his team the strength to carry on. It’s time common sense prevails and Peter and his colleagues are freed.”
